The two communications satellites launched by the Russian space agency Roscosmos will not only serve the vast country but also deliver necessary services to the International Space Station, which is marking 12 years of human habitation.
Luch 5B, one of the birds launched via the Proton Rocket will deliver data, voice, and video communications to the ISS. The second satellite, Yamal 300K, is set to deliver high-speed Internet on satellite services to Russia. Luch 5B will also be used to link those aboard the ISS with mission control and other satellites orbiting the earth, similar to NASA’s own Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System.
